If you want to know more about NANOG itself and not this project, check here. This project is a wikified version of the NANOG FAQ, hopefully more up-to-date and less workload for individual staff at Merit. See the credits for editors. Please send comments to NANOG Wiki Maintainers.

To paraphrase Joe Abley:

Once upon a time there was an ad-hoc NANOG FAQ which was maintained more or less exclusively by a SRH. Over time, she enlisted the assistance of other willing contributors, some through public direct requests for assistance and some by virtue of their repeated suggestions for changes to the FAQ.

While most all online discussion environments have them, the NANOG charter is silent about the existence of a FAQ, never mind that there is a group of volunteers involved in maintaining it. Over time, concerns arose that the FAQ was prescriptive the degree that discourse was stifled and it was being given authority which really only belongs to the Acceptable Use Policy. The FAQ is more a set of hints and guide to resources for the Questions that are Frequently Asked.
